I loved Great Expectations. Many people say it’s one of those books that people only read because they think they should, but I wholeheartedly disagree.
Wuthering Heights was never one of my favorites. I was turned off by the goofiness of it, but I did see how people really love it, and I think of it often in comparisons with other literature.
I haven’t picked up Beloved yet, but I’ve read The Bluest Eye, which is an incredibly disturbing, gut wrenching book. Well worth reading if you can stomach it.

No need to be dismayed by not getting into Wuthering Heights – I think that whole gothic romance genre is an acquired taste.
I did just finish reading Jane Eyre which may appeal to you. Still romantic, still very dark, less ethereal torment.
And I really like your sewing machine icon! I want my own machine when I move to someplace that’s not so deficient in extra room.
